I started using Camtasia in the early 20 teens. It was a struggle because I was new to learning tools like this. I have used others, but remained with Camtasia. When updated versions came out they did not interrupt my ability to work or cause problems as updates can sometimes do. The tutorials make learning easy as they are clear and concise. And there are many of them!

Pros

Ease of use always!!! Even if I don’t use it for awhile when I return to using it there’s no huge learning barrier to become reacquainted.

Second would be price. It was not cost prohibitive like some others.

Cons

I don’t have anything. There are no dislikes from me.

I've made demo videos of software in under a day with Camtasia. Editing them and adding callouts is a breeze.

Pros

It's optimized for creating videos in which screen recordings of software usage predominate.

Cons

Little things, like the inability to reverse a clip (i.e. play it backwards on the timeline). The ability to export the audio to an external program, edit it there, then bring it back in, would be amazing too.

I am only somewhat pleased with this product. The platform is good but the functionality is lacking greatly. Lots of bugs in the system that need repaired for it to work to the level of cost. Must say i am disappointed.

Pros

The ease of pulling in and adding content for creation. Its not hard to use and tutorials help if needed.

Cons

Lag time during creation. This software has horrible lag when moving videos into the creation bar and when you try to use playback to edit. This creates frustration during editing as it takes much longer to create your content. I feel for the price of this product this bug should have been resolved by now. Also the list of additional content has been reduced greatly in the 2023 version.

This has helped me communicate technical concepts more effectively through visual demonstrations, leading to improved knowledge sharing and productivity within my team.

Pros

Camtasia makes it incredibly easy to record my screen and webcam simultaneously, and the built-in editing tools are powerful enough to create professional-looking videos without any complexity.

Cons

The rendering process can be a bit slow, especially for longer videos with high resolutions.

Overall, it’s an excellent tool. One of the things I wish the company would do is allow users to select their own premium assets instead of paying $199 for assets you may not use or need.

Pros

The more you use it the easier it becomes!

Cons

Sometimes moving items around on the timeline isn’t easy.

Alternatives Considered

Intuitive and easy to get a quality project pulled together.

Pros

I like Premiere, but it's just too much mojo for the average project and the more intuitive user.

Cons

I don't have any complaints, honestly. Just wish I could get a list of best peripherals to use to set up my home studio. I do a lot of trial and error.

I really loved it at first and promoted it to others to start using it. Now, it drives me crazy that it takes me longer to create than it ever did before because of these design and UX changes.

Pros

It was pretty easy to learn and could do the basics with no problem.

Cons

The additions of Proxy and other editing features made it cumbersome to get the normal editing completed that 2022 had.

Camtasia has been a core tool in my (and my organization's) e-learning development toolbox over the years. We've used it to capture training content, edit training content, create training content, etc. Screen captures, live capture of instructor video, accompanying or standalone animated storytelling via graphics and text. It's been great.

Pros

Camtasia is easy to use, doesn't require a subscription, has good built-in animations and transitions, and does screen capture as well! It's a great tool that covers a lot of bases in the world of video creation/editing. Has excellent performance for the most part as well.

Cons

I've always wished the media bin was a resizable pane. I've worked around it by using structured file naming conventions for my media assets (of which I typically have a lot, since I mostly use Camtasia these days for video creation with text and graphics).

Overall, I’ve had a great experience with Camtasia. I’ve used it for YouTube, for my teaching and making training and demonstration videos for other contracts I’ve had.

Pros

The ability to edit video was a total game-changer. Otherwise, I may as well just post videos recorded with a phone camera. It allows my videos to be infinitely better than they would be otherwise. The timeline-style editing is great and I now think in those terms when recording.

Cons

The 2023 version is not as stable as the old version I had. The old version NEVER crashed (okay, maybe once in five years). 2023… has been known to choke when I try to use and edit large recordings. Have also had some problems with the license key sometimes just… going away and the system not accepting my license key when I re-enter it. Extremely annoying. I’ve had the new version since Nov. and this problem happens about every two months so far.

Overall, I can’t imagine using another product to do everything Camtasia does right. I can easily export video and audio to manipulate in other programs that do what I need and then import those files back in. I don’t use the other products for the whole project as I find them harder to use.

Pros

I bought this product to create training videos. I find it very easy to combine screen recordings, camcorder video, screen captures, audio, narration, and clip art. My narration on the first take is never perfect, but I can edit all the bad things out easily. Once done, creating a mp4 with various qualities is easy.

Cons

There are always more features I’d like to see. Other products are using AI to help audio recordings be super quiet and clear. I’d like to easily reverse a video.

Great experience. I would highly recommend this to other university professors who need to create videos for their students.

Pros

I needed a product that was relatively easy to use and could produce high quality videos. Camtasia worked great for me. I produce videos for remote-learning students and found this product to be very useful. I am not very "tech-savvy", so found that Camtasia is fairly easy to learn and create.

Cons

The background colour remover is sometimes hard to use. I find that I have to struggle with it on occasions to remove the background and replace it with my alternative background.

Camtasia is a tool that works and doesn't have too many frills. It doesn't take as long to learn, but for someone with experience creating and editing video, it might seem pretty limiting.

Pros

It's a fairly easy video creation tool. It doesn't have too many frills so it isn't too challenging to learn.

Cons

The UI is a little clunky and having "Favorites" are not all in one place. You have to go to each individual tab and find your favorites whether starred or a library you created.

I especially liked the ability to export full HTML page with video player, that can be hosted easily on any webserver and it works great.

I've been happy with Camtasia since I first downloaded it. The updates are great. And I've created more than 50 videos for The Ten-Minute Trainer Network, where I'm a contributor.

Pros

I like being able to set up a video shoot in seconds and edit it on the fly. It's made a big difference in getting my content from the printed page to quick-hitting videos. Big fan.

Cons

I have not been able to add every effect available. But I attribute a lot of that to my not getting every bit of training you offer. As a trainer myself, I know I need to go back and learn a few more "tricks" and effects.
