Like buying 4 different software tools in one

Reviewed on 06/08/2021

Really great. Looking forward to publishing the course.

Really great. Looking forward to publishing the course.

Pros

So - in my day job I create e-Learning. Put me in front of Adobe Captivate or Articulate Storyline and I am totally at home.

But then I decide to create a course in my spare time. What could go wrong?
Well - to start with the course creator software I tried was super expensive, with monthly fees, or scarily limited features. I managed to land on Thinkific... But knew I needed to upgrade before the course was released...
And then once you get the course, you are going to need a funnel (have you seen the cost of clickfunnels per month?). With a landing page and payment options. And a email marketing tool. And something to run webinars.
Gurucan does all that, and it's just paying one price instead of multiple monthly costs. And there's an app too.
And I don't have the time or the bandwidth to try to learn/remember/explain to people the 5 different tools that are all precariously linked together to make my course work.
I'm officially impressed.

Cons

Ok - the UI could be improved. It's just slightly too simple sometimes.
I would love if it included feedback surveys - has quizzes, but they are more like right or wrong - doesn't allow for the users to submit paragraphs of free text.
It does webinars - would be good if that functionality could be included to create videos inside courses (screencapture, voice recording or even just voice recording aligned with a downloaded presentation)- I think this may be possible with a workaround (and can always record it using other tools, but I'm feeling spoilt by doing it all in one place)

Versatile and Robust Mobile-First LMS With Huge Potential

I have to admit, I was skeptical about YET ANOTHER learning management system. I’ve been in the space for a long time and I thought I had seen it all and there was no room for growth in 2021. However, I was wrong and this is so much more.

Gurucan has huge potential to take your current learning experience and elevate it to a truly mobile-first experience. I’m not sure if anyone would argue that mobile is where everything is going.

What’s even more interesting is that we were looking for a solution that would allow us to go mobile, take payments and sync with our other automation tools.

This solution has helped us define the very fabric of what we're going to create next. With Gurucan, we can have a mobile solution, a desktop solution that allows for payments and marketing within the platform.

That was part of our initial plan but we were going to build it from scratch. This is going to save us not only months of development and thousands of dollars, but also allow us to get to market much much faster.
While we're excited to see where the tool is going, But even happier that we're going along on the ride with them.

Pros

Gurucan has taken a completely new approach to how LMS is can and should be done today. They have taken a mobile-first approach which is clearly where the market is headed. They have taken away much of the thinking, planning, building, and headache of rolling out a robust solution for LMS users. They have taken the fundamentals of how a learning platform should work and added in many of the different solutions and features that today's community managers need to keep audiences engaged.

Cons

I think some of the design elements could use a little more polish. Needs Zoom integration for webinars that pull in recordings. Needs mobile app for administrators.

I'm still trying with the product and I will update my review as I see things changing.

The main important thing for us is how fast is the product development. 3 weeks to just remove the footer is very disappointing and too slow in my opinion. There are over 20 highly important requests on the road map if each one took you 3 weeks or more we need to wait some years before we are able to use the product

At this point, I will not switch to Gurucan and I wish all the best for the company and I hope to see some development so I can enjoy using it for my business.

Pros

At first, I fall in love with this deal, however when I start building my course issue after the other start to show up.
Let's start with what I like about Guru can!

1- First deal on Appsumo that offers LMS with an app for IOS and Andriod
2- Easy to use
3- offers membership and webinars(Beta)
4- very responsive support team (it gives me some hope)

Cons

1- Very ugly footer [SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN] with a link to the app So it's not completely white label
Over 200 votes on the road map to remove it, and finally, it will be removed after 3 weeks! on Feb 25

2- The app has access to a lot of private information that is not necessary for the app functions for example (Mic, Camera, precise location, contact list, phone status, modify system settings) way more than similar apps like Udemy requires. The support team said they will simplify it in the next week but it's still there.

3- It allows you to offer only one payment method PayPal or stripe, what if some of my clients have Paypal others have stipe!

4- The landing page and the course is very slow (8/100) on the google speed test! (simple page with few pic and one video) [SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN]
The support team also mentioned in the Q&A that they will work on the speed and using CDN.

5- there are small glitches here and there as the company is new, for example, I want to have some parts of the course available for free so people can have a look before they buy. that's not available yet. not easy to add testimonials and manage it, you can't customize the check out like what you do with Teachable and other software.

I am now using this platform as a school center and it is allowing me to add various classes to the course curriculum - I LOVE that.

Pros

I enjoyed the ability to easily establish the payment processor - there is no sense in creating a great product and then not being able to get paid for it. I also appreciate the layout - the aesthetics are quite vibrant and inviting.

Cons

There seems to be a forced funnel whereby the offer can come only as a teaser, but the set up makes it seem like the customer is paying for the offer, not the actual project. I was given a very cumbersome way to fix this but it did not seem user friendly - too many steps.

I decided to go ahead and purchase Gurucan because I just can't see passing the value of this offer up. Just to give some comparison, the most popular platforms for online learning out there are Thinkific, Teachable, and Podia. If you look at pricing, you will notice that Thinkific and Podia each charge $79/month and Teachable is $99/month. Gurucan is in it's early stages and already a very well thought out platform. It has almost everything you could ask for and even if you purchase the unlimited bandwidth, you will still only be paying $9/month. This is $70 less that the cheapest platform I mentioned above. This deal is too good in my opinion. Even better, the team at Gurucan have answered more than 300 questions and continue to answer every question that they receive on Appsumo. I joined the Telegram group and received a response to my question in less than 15 minutes. Support is top-notch and the platform is very good as it is. I can only imagine what it will be as updates continue to roll out. Thanks Gurucan. You are a true winner!

Pros

I like the pricing the most. Compared to most other platforms in the same sector, Gurucan is the most value fo my money.

Cons

The only thing is that the setup is not very intuitive. It takes a bit of computer knowledge in order to use. The best part is the support team is quick and responsive.

Alternatives Considered

Podia

Reasons for Choosing Gurucan

Because the pricing for Gurucan will save me tons of money in the long run. It may not be as good as Thinkific at the moment, but that is going to change as the platform is ironed out and new features are added.

Reasons for Switching to Gurucan

Again, because of pricing. Podia is the same price as Thinkific and both offer the same functionality. For a one time purchase, Gurucan is a no-brainer.

Overall the LMS is ok.
The landing page creator and integrations with payment processors are poor, requiring you to rather use other sales pages if you aren't able to use Stripe and/or Paypal.
Course creation is relatively easy, with a focus on mobile deployment.
Sadly, any videos embedded via Vimeo, Youtube, Wistia etc won't be visible via the mobile app, necessitating either uploading videos to Gurucan's service (extremely poor, requiring multiple attempts at uploading), or transcribing your lesson to their text fields (acceptable. Hint: use transcription software like Otter).

Overall, once deployed, the courses work, but webinars, coaching calls etc... skip these for now until these mature.
I'm keeping the software for very lightweight, select use, but won't use it as my go-to LMS when servicing major clients.

Pros

Mobile-first focus, ability to integrate PabblyConnect to enrol students, relative ease to create offers containing multiple courses.
White-label app possibility (for a price).
If you are a gym/yoga or fitness coach, Gurucan will suit you with repetitions, meal plans, recipes etc.

Cons

Poor integrations with video hosting, HTML embedding and operations hit-and-miss at best, team communication hit-and-miss.
App is very hit-and-miss.
Very hard focus on health-and-fitness industry, not seen in their marketing.

Alternatives Considered

Reasons for Switching to Gurucan

I didn't so much choose Gurucan over all of these, as run it in parallel with the others. The white-label app is a key selling point.

Good start and lots of potential.
This is a new service and they offer a LMS, CRM and payment processing service all for a reasonable price. The individual features are fairly basic at this stage but they seem to have ticked all the right boxes so far so I'm hopeful they will have made considerable improvements to their feature set within a year or two.

Pros

1. Provides a one-stop-shop for those looking to create and sell online courses.
2. Mobile first - most learners are on phone/tablets these days so mobile first is a must.
3. Many additional features to a traditional LMS such as webinars and payment processing
4. Cloud based - no installing or updating required.
5. Provides a white-label service.
6. Webhooks to connect with Zapier and then other solutions for specific needs

Cons

1. Price for the white-label app is crazy talk compared to the cost of creating an app - should be a one-off payment especially as it is aimed at mobile users and as a white label service.
2. No ability to import LTI, xAPI, SCORM or other existing course content
3. No VAT or tax management - a big issue if you are providing a service to that takes payments
4. Course content creation tools are fairly basic. Add text, images, videos but nothing like what typical e-learning content would require.

Alternatives Considered

Teachable, Moodle and Udemy Business

Reasons for Switching to Gurucan

The combination of a LMS, CMS and payment processing as an all in one solution means we can just focus on the content which is worth it compared to setting up many independent servies.

GuruCan has exactly what I need to be up and running my school in no time. I am only migrating my courses's media to GuruCan and its intuitive user interface let me do it in a snap.

What I love the most about GuruCan is that it is robust (and yet simple to use) and it has many powerful functions that are only growing with the time.

The project is good and solid and the support is unparalled.

Pros

- Straight forward user interface.
- Email broadcast.
- Media hosting and decent bandwitth.
- Super features rich (Course Sales, Landing pages, Membership, Email automation,Mobile app,Quizzes, etc.)

Cons

I generally think it is good value for me as someone who is on a single payment lifetime deal.
I hope the platform will mature with time, however in its current state, it is useable.
I'm sure im going to need to contact the support team for minor things and from what I've heard they are responsive.
Oppertunity to be really great, but right now its just decent.

Pros

I got this software as a lifetime deal, so 'my' value for money is very good.
I have worked with similar systems in the past, and so far this one is pretty nice.

Cons

It takes a while to figure it all out, there are some issues that im still not sure how to fix. I feel like its in beta at the moment, but its promising.

Alternatives Considered

Amazing, until now my experience with GuruCan has been very pleasant. Of course it needs improvements, but I believe that the platform has everything a company needs to create content online with easy. The more incredible part is that fact that you can set everything and let it running automatically. So smooth!

Pros

GuruCan is very versatile and provide a reliable platform to create and sustain online courses with interactive content. What I enjoyed more was the ease of the process to create course and integration of the overall platform.

Cons

The UI feels quiet stiff, therefore I think that it could be more intuitive and responsive.

I've just began using gurucan I intend to set up some courses beginning with free ones, which they allow free and paid courses on the platform. Which is great. I'm new to all this so their guides are very helpful. As a new course creator I'm excited to start using the platform more and more to host my courses. It's an exciting time for me and for gurucan as they grow and iron out any issues with their software. I look forward to seeing how they develop in the future.

Pros

I love that jt will allow me to create courses in future at an affordable price. I also love that it has a mobile app. In the era of mobile first that's so important. It has guides to take you through setting it up. There are a lot of features included. You can upload just about any kind of media you can think of. As far as a course platform so far it seems really good.

Cons

There is a few teething issues. There's a problem with translation but that doesn't affect me directly but people need a certified translator to translate courses. And pdf files seem to be insecure which is a problem I hope gets resolved. There's a few other issues but that's to be expected with any new software I can only hope they sort it out soon.

Alternatives Considered

Reasons for Switching to Gurucan

Because of the price and the mobile app. The deal on appsumo sealed the deal decision wise.

Even though a few features need some polishing, this platform still deserves a 5-star rating as it has innovative features that set it apart from the classic players! The advantages and the ease with which a course creator can deploy an app far outweigh the small issues. In addition, the Gurucan team is improving things all the time which makes me very optimistic for the future of this platform.

Pros

- Unlimited video hosting (+$9/mo for unlimited bandwidth which is very inexpensive)
- Group chats. These can be public or tied to a product (plus upcoming comments for lessons)
- Excellent user management (covering both web and app activity)
- App which allows signing up by Google/Facebook/email. This is great for getting new people signing up for free mini-courses and building the community.
- Paid option for branded app (although using the Gurucan app for your school works great too)
- Push notifications (both for branded app or through the Gurucan app)
- Customizable interface (more options than Teachable/Thinkific etc.)
- Good course building options (again better than most)
- "Articles" section which can be customized for blog posts or extra materials (ex. downloads). Again these can be public or tied to a purchase.
- Decent automation builder for push and email notifications, tagging, etc.
- Good help center (considering that this is a new company)
- Very responsive customer support.

Cons

- Poor checkout process (but you can integrate your own cart through Zapier).
- Poor documentation on setting up PayPal as a payment processor. On some other platforms, it's just a two-click process.
- Unclear if Stripe and Paypal can be used simultaneously.
- No customizable grouping/categories for courses. It has filtering which is very obscure and unfriendly. I would like to be able to categorize "my courses", "free courses", "premium courses" etc. Suggestion: This would be possible if we had more than one "courses" option in the sidebar.
- Text is not customizable (ex. titles like "exercises" and phrases like "Available for forever since started" or "you have been expelled" are very inappropriate for my use and I'd like to change them)
- Missing DKIM/SPF for email.

My business is online training. I have used a few LMS and Gurucan certainly brings something fresh and modern. I like the fact that it is easy to use and create courses, quizzes, challenges, and also offers private chat with students. I also love Gurucan has email and marketing automation built inside it. On top of all that it has mobile app. My members would definitely love the fact that they can take classes using their mobiles.

Pros

I have been using LearnDash and a shopping cart app to run courses and I'm constantly having issues that are beyond my skill set to fix. Both apps are also far more powerful than I need. Courses are not yet a big income creator for me, but I'm interested in building out that part of my business, but have shied away from it because managing the technology is overwhelming and paying somebody to do it is not currently in my budget. While not as customizable as LearnDash, the ease of use and the ability to do everything I need to do within Gurucan (aside from some of videos staying with Vimeo). I'm so energized to get things switched over and get comfortable with the new platform. Thanks to the team for the great product!!!

Gurucan will allow me to simplify my subscription based service as well as adding a white label app and creating courses and challenges to sell for a 1x fee.

I am beyond excited for the white label app, I have been looking at ways to get my own app without thousands of upfront dollars to develop it and this is my golden ticket. Having an app will make my product look more appealing and more established VS my competition. This is definitely a HUGE benefit.

Pros

at 1st glance I love it all. This is exactly what I was needing and have been looking for. Creating memberships, courses that can be sold over and over, webinars (still in beta at the time of this writing) and the app...what is not to love. There are many other features Gurucan provides but these are why I love it so far.
The support team is top notch which seems to be rare these days. Great Job hiring great people Gurucan.

Cons

The platform provides several ways to evaluate and improve the studies of each client, such as quizz, homework, chats.

Want to have a customer-only blog? You can in the "blog" function
Do you want to do a webinar? Use this option.
Want to automate your processes? Use Zapier or other forms of integration.

Pros

I'm a course creator on another platform, and I most like the idea that Gurucan is an inexpensive all-in-one platform! The thought of everything integrated into one place is something I've had and is a great feature.

Cons

What I least like about Gurucan is the basic functionality is a bit confusing. Some things seem straightforward, and others don't make much sense. The aesthetics are basic compared to what I'm used to. I was hoping for the integration feature to work for me to import my courses from another platform. So far, that hasn't worked as described. Gurucan outperforms most of the LMS available in market in terms of its UI and functionality. The ability to install recordings from Vimeo, Wistia and Youtube is excellent. Though this feature is available in many other LMS as well, with GURUCAN it is seamless, intuitive and easy to use. What I like the most about this LMS is its unlimited student feature and white labelling capability in the higher plan. Gurucan also provides option to create mobile landing pages which is a huge plus. With a committed and expert team behind, I feel that this platform will one day be a leading LMS in the market.

not a cons per se but i believe this is the same with most (if not all) LMS solutions. Although both paypal and stripe are options, we can only connect one with the account and not different gateway options for different countries / students

I had given up on an app that spoke to my audience until I tried Gurucan

My audience is b-u-s-y and doesn't have the time or desire to spend digging for value in their inbox or a Facebook group. Gurucan has given me a space where I can connect directly with my audience in their hands.

Pros

It automagically pulled in all my content from Kajabi. I have a large catalogue of online learning and there it all was, waiting for me. All I had to do was make any updates and formatting with the super-easy block editor and I was ready to go. Super fast. Super easy. Super intuitive.

Cons

I'd love a social/group feature beyond the chat feature. Engagement is so important in community-building and chats can sometimes feel like a wall of text where connection gets lost.

Amazing tool!

Pros

Gurucan makes it so easy to share your knowledge with people, it's insane. You don't have to be a big tech genius to understand what to do. And you can change the whole website/app to look like your brand. I love to use it and can't stop in the evening because there are just so many ideas that pop up in my head. It's more like a game than work.

Cons

There are still a few features missing e.g. implementations like Sendfox. But as Gurucan is in some places still in its BETA version and they have a whole roadmap with things they are still working on and adding to the service - this will be no issue anymore in no time!

I've been updating a course that I hosted in Wordpress with Gurucan. It's been good so far!

Pros

Lots of features! I like that they have an app. They also were a big help in getting SSL setup on my domain that points to Gurucan.

Cons

Some issues with the rich text editor. For example. code snippets are sometimes spaced out too much. I haven't contacted support yet.

Pros

Lots of features in one single product, mobile/app ready. Looks awesome!

Cons

I would like to use another typeface, don’t like this one so much and would love to have it in Brazilian Portuguese!

As a food and supplement company that also sells challenges and digital programs, this is the perfect solution for our growing body of course work.

Pros

Love that we have a fully functional app without paying for a developer or spending years building out an app. The UI is clean, works great, and is a huge upgrade from our old way of doing things.

Cons

The integrations are a bit light, I know the developers are working on this so I'm hopeful we'll get more direct integrations in the near term.

Overall Gurucan is a brilliant new platform for professionals who create content and want to engage with their followers/members in one platform that caters for all of their business needs. From CRM to opportunity to build courses and talk to members in chats.
Even though there is plenty more potential for improvements, I cannot recommend it enough! Worth it!

Pros

- easy to use
- offers endless configurations of pricing and packages
- very responsive support team
- plenty of features
- great ability to white label!
- offers app as well - sweet!

Cons

- it needs more abilities to configure headings
- it needs more settings for the rich text, including more fonts, so people can really go further with their branding and use their branding fonts etc.
- waiting for Webinars to be fully functional + appear on the app - not simply in Beta, as I have tons of these and I'm itching to publish them
- course certificates still in the road map for development
