About Adobe Illustrator

Adobe Illustrator CC is an industry-standard tool in vector drawing and editing for professional design and artwork. Users can create graphic designs that go virtually anywhere including print, websites, video games, logos for brand corporations, packaging for general merchandise, as well as business cards, billboards, bus wraps and even clothes.

Illustrator CC enables graphic designers to create sketches, typography and illustrations for print, web, video, and mobile, and offers a wide set of tools, filters and effects. Illustrator works with vector graphics which are resolution independent and defined mathematically for quality control, and also with the more traditional, raster graphics.

Illustrator CC comes with thousands of royalty-free stock art and all projects can be loaded into InDesign for a complete design workflow. The solution also integrates with animation and video apps like Animate CC, Premiere Pro, and After Effects.

With the seamlessly integrated Adobe Creative Cloud, users can easily access, organize, and share creative assets with other users, as well as other Adobe desktop and mobile apps.

Adobe’s mobile apps include Illustrator Draw, Capture CC, and Comp CC that let users intuitively capture creative vision with shapes, color, and typography with their mobile devices and seamlessly continue projects on the desktop with Illustrator CC.

Key benefits of Adobe Illustrator

  • Create freeform vector designs on-the-go with the Adobe Illustrator Draw app for Android, and seamlessly move the designs over to desktop Illustrator CC.

  • Users can pull creative assets (live text, images and graphics) into the Comp CC iPad and iPhone app from the shared Creative Cloud Libraries and instantly send layouts to Illustrator CC.

  • Creative Cloud is always synced so users can browse and access colors, type styles, graphics, brushes and more anytime, anywhere, from within Illustrator and mobile apps like Sketch and Draw.

  • With the Capture CC app, users can extract a color theme or create a vector graphic using an iPad, iPhone or Android phone and load them into Illustrator for further editing.

  • Users can import / export content and projects from Photoshop and Dreamweaver with testing support for content management solutions like WordPress, Joomla!, and Drupal.

My overall experience with Adobe Illustrator has been great. However, I notice that my levels of creativity are average, which means I take longer than necessary to produce a great graphic design project.

    Pros

Adobe Illustrator is very powerful for producing vector graphics like logos that can be scaled without losing quality. Its tools are awesome, especially for a professional graphic designer.

    Cons

Learning Adobe Illustrator can be steep for non-graphic designers. Those new to graphic design can be quickly discouraged when starting out. You need a lot of creativity to use the tools and produce awesome graphics. Few people have very high creativity.

Adobe illustrator is my favorite and I'll probably always use it as long as I can afford it. That being said, I can do most (not all) of the same things with cheaper software.

    Pros

What stands out the most is the ability to use a larger canvas size and complex custom brushes without lag time and other issues when painting. Everything is always very smooth and fluid.
Adobe illustrator has more tools in general, and more powerful tools for things like selections, color adjustments, and transformations. I also liked the layer and layer property options.
I designed a product for my company and the artwork and logo on it turned out great using Adobe illustrator.
Overall quality of everything is just better, simple as that.

    Cons

Adobe illustrator is significantly more expensive than other digital art software. The workspace and entire software is going to feel very different if youre coming from another product. That could be a pro or con but either way I think there is a small con with the "re-learning" process.
