PDF files are Ubiquitous , so it pays to be adept with Adobe Acrobat

Since PDF files are supported everywhere it's essential to dealing with documents. Once when I bought a condo I had to send the Master Deed to my insurance agent but I only had a paper copy of the deed. Luckily our printer/scanner has a scan to PDF doc feature where it sends the produced doc to my e-mail address; a life saver. My day to day experience is typically just using Acrobat for reading documents, occasionally I'll encounter a document which is setup such that I can fill-in prepared form entries with just Acrobat Reader, PRO not required.
Pros
Standards are a good thing and PDF is the de facto standard for regular documents and Adobe Acrobat Reader is free and the pre-eminent PDF reader, it's use is a no brainer.
Cons
Adobe Acrobat Pro is needed for PDF creation or adhoc free editing. Acrobat Pro is too expensive for a casual user. Therefore typically only a few workers for whom document creating/editing is an essential part of their job have a Acrobat Pro license.

I like that I now have a way to create a document and know that what the recipient of the file will see is what I have created. In older times with various Word Processing programs or Graphic programs, text or graphics would get moved depending on the program that it is opened with or if they recipient had a program that could open that type of file. PDF is universal and also almost all operating systems allow you to print to PDF so I know people will see what I send them (though they can't really change it, of course).
Pros
I've used Acrobat for decades and I'm glad to see it is now so very mainstream. Most everyone knows what a PDF file is and can read it as, if they don't have the actual program installed, most browsers and graphic editors can usually read them.
Cons
With the free reader, if you want to make any other than the most basic of changes, unless the file has been purposefully created as a fillable form, it is difficult/impossible to edit anything and the software nags you to pay in order to do so. But can't blame Adobe for that, they have to make their money too!
