Part of that modest expense is forward commitment. Both Westlaw and Lexis required multi-year contracts. At 81 I prefer month to month. If I can't pay, I can quit. Both Westlaw and Lexis refused to let me end my agreements and sent them out for collection to make their point. Then they refused to extend their services after accelerating and receiving full payment. Second, after a short learning curve I found Casetext really improved my research coverage. I'm still not able to use all Casetext features, but continue to work on it. > > **Cons**: I like least that I can't read early Illinois case law. I am working with the Department of Justice on a foreclosure case in which the IRS and I are co-defendants. Much of Illinois property law has its roots in 19th and early 20th decisions and statutes, and would be really helpful to read and cite. This is not "antiquarian" interest, but the need for solid understanding of evolving law based on common law principles which are the rule of decision in Illinois and the basis of our governing property law statutes. I understand that some of your new features will be available only at extra cost. I understand the business need, but I hope you will "grandfather" early days subscribers over 80 who would like to be able to use them. Additionally, I have trouble with your training sessions because I use Ubuntu Linux, not being able to use (or interested in using) expensive Microsoft. > > My overall experience has been excellent.
