## Overview

### Key benefits of IKAROS

• The fourth generation of IKAROS (IKAROS G4 for short) is based on a powerful and flexible n-tier architecture and a user-friendly web interface (SPA). The data is stored in a Microsoft SQL Server database, including the use of the module “change log” for revision security. Event control is performed via the central workflow management component. Dialog control is handled by the application server based on roles and permissions.
• By using multi-tier architecture, multithreading and caching, IKAROS G4 achieves significantly better utilization of available resources on a single machine. In addition, there is separation of functions and horizontal scalability depending on the edition. In this way, individual components such as the database, web server and/or application server can also be distributed across several machines in a server farm (both as a separate layer and in parallel mode, e.g. several application servers), thus multiplying the system throughput. The scaling of the database is done automatically. The scaling of the layers must be planned. With the help of a load balancer, the existing hardware can be easily expanded.
• IKAROS G4 is based on a SOA (service-oriented architecture), which means that all IKAROS functions are available as a service that users can also use from their own programs. There is detailed service documentation for this. In addition, Custom Code (currently JavaScript and LINQ) and self-written plug-ins can be used to extend the functions of IKAROS or integrate external services/functions.
• The graphical workflow editor is the basic tool in IKAROS that can be used without programming knowledge. This allows you to create your own workflows simply by dragging and dropping.
• Various professional modules, e.g. for the automated judicial dunning procedure in Germany or the eSchKG in Switzerland.
• Interfaces in the area of payment transactions, electronic legal transactions, and much more.
